Volunteer

Become a Volunteer. Join the Voice for the Orphans team! We can use your creativity, prayer, time, research abilities and communication skills. If you have a heart for helping orphans, but aren’t sure how or what you can do - join a great team of people with a similar heart and vision. Your input is important and you can make a difference in the life of an orphan and foster care child.

Volunteer openings:

We are looking to expand the VFTO team into other states. Each state, and sometimes even county, has their own set of fostering and adoption laws and guidelines. In order for VFTO to be as effective as we can be, it is very important to have chapters in each state. If you have a heart for bringing awareness regarding abandonded, neglected or abused children in the way VFTO vision is, please contact us or fill out the volunteer application.

The VFTO Weley Chapel, FL, location is currently accepting applications for the positions of treasurer, researcher and marketing team members.

Q. What is a Volunteer?

A. A volunteer is a person who has a heart for VFTO's vision and would like to volunteer their time and talents, yet does not hold a board position. A non-board member volunteer does not have the same level of responsibilities or expectations in the areas of leadership and/or time, though they are asked to hold true to commitments made. Even though they do not hold voting power as a board member does, they are highly valued and their input is very respected.

Q. What am I committing to when I volunteer?

A. VFTO has need of many types of volunteers. Some may only be able to help with events from time to time while others may want to be more involved. Many of those who want to be more involved become part of our leadership team. Our leadership team usually donates their time with specific areas of interest at least once a week or more. The commitment level is up to the person volunteering their time.

Q. Will I work directly with abandoned, neglected or abused children when I become a volunteer?

A. Yes, often we hold events at Foster Care Homes and here you will work directly with children in need. However, VFTO is an advocacy group and most of what our volunteers and leadership teams would be doing are in the areas of public speaking, graphic design, administrative, newsletters, grant proposals, research, etc.

Q. Are there ways I can volunteer where I would work more closely with children in need?

A. Yes! There are many worthy avenues of volunteering your time which we highly recommend. Looking into any of the following would be worth your time:

Guardian Ad Litem ( an advocate for a child whose welfare is a matter of concern for the court. In legal terms, it means "guardian for the lawsuit") http://www.guardianadlitem6.org
Big Brothers, Big Sisters (youth mentoring organization) http://www.bbbsfl.org/
A foster care home near you. Please see resources for a more extensive list.
I Matter Too (a tutoring group for abandoned, neglected and abused children)   http://www.imattertoo.com/

If you would like to volunteer with VFTO, please fill out the volunteer application and send it in via traditional mail or via e-mail. Both addresses are provided on the application. Thank you.

Please contact us if you have further questions or to find out about specific areas of volunteers needed. Thank you.
