Foster a Child

If you are thinking, “I can’t do that,” please take time to read this family’s story.:

Pastors Ricky and Joni Franklin, Roanoke, TX -

My wife, Joni, and I became interested in fostering children while we were listening to the horrible statistics about foster care!  It is said that more kids come out of foster care abused and messed up than when they entered. As we were griping about the horrible state of the system, we felt the "nudge" of Jesus, "Why don't you do something about it, then?" Having been blessed with five of our own wonderful children, ages 10-16, we went to them and decided as a family what we had to do.  In the summer of 2008, we became foster parents.  Over the past 21 months, we have hosted 5 foster children (we currently have 3). It is not easy, but it is amazing to watch God work in their lives and ours. We have seen God completely heal burned feet, shrink tumors, heal wounded souls, and increase these little ones’ knowledge and understanding of the Love of their Father God. One of the things I hear the most from people is, "I don't think I could do foster care because it would break my heart to see them go." My response is, “If it doesn't break your heart, then you probably weren't a good foster parent to them." As you allow the love of Jesus to flow through you, you find that His grace is enough to sustain you.
